Description

Pericardium provides the heart with external protection, it is the membrane that surrounds the heart; also its energy protects the heart from damage and disruption from excessive emotional energies generated by some organs, such as anger from the liver, fear from the kidneys, and grief from the lungs.

Although it is not recognized as an organ in Western physiology, it is regarded in Traditional Chinese Medicine as a Fire-energy organ whose special function is to protect the heart.
